Independent Living

Independent living communities in Minneapolis are housing designed for seniors 55 and older. Individuals live in their own apartment but have access to amenities such as housekeeping, social activities, dining, transportation, and more. Independent living does not typically provide supervision or medical care.

Assisted Living

Assisted living communities in Minneapolis are an excellent option for seniors who may require more day-to-day assistance with activities of daily life (ADLs) but wish to remain as independent for as long as possible. What distinguishes a property as an assisted living rather than an independent living or 55+ community is that it is regulated by the State of Minnesota and has employee caregivers.

Board and Care Homes

Board & Care homes (B&C) in Minneapolis offer the same types of services as the larger communities, but service is provided in a small residential setting. The intimate setting afforded by board and care homes allows for closer oversight of residents and is accompanied by a higher staff-to-resident ratio. They share the same Residential Care Facilities for the Elderly (RCFE) license as the larger buildings. Both are regulated and monitored by the Minnesota Department of Health.

Skilled Nursing

The terms “skilled nursing facility” and “nursing home” in Minneapolis are often used interchangeably to describe a residential facility that provides on-site, 24-hour medical care. Some people think the two are one and the same, when in fact they are very different. A skilled nursing facility is a type of care, while a nursing home is a senior living option.

In-Home Care

In-home care in Minneapolis includes any professional support services that allow a person to live safely in their home. In-home care services can help someone who is aging and needs home care assistance to live independently; is managing chronic health issues; is recovering from a medical setback; or has special needs or a disability.
