To qualify for the Elderly Waiver, individuals must:
Be 65 years or older
Qualify financially for Medical Assistance (Medicaid)
Be assessed as needing a nursing home level of care
Complete a Long-Term Care Consultation (LTCC) assessment through their county
The Elderly Waiver may help cover care services provided in assisted living communities that accept waiver funding, often called customized living communities. These services may include help with bathing, dressing, medication management, and other daily care needs.
However, the program does not cover room and board, so residents are still responsible for housing and meal costs.
Depending on a person’s care plan, the Elderly Waiver may cover services such as:
Assistance with activities of daily living (ADLs)
Medication management
Homemaking and housekeeping
Personal care assistance
Transportation
Meal preparation
Care coordination and case management
